Recently Forbes and U.S. News & World Report released their "top cities" lists for the IT sector—and though Seattle took the number one spot on the Forbes list, surprisingly few major metropolitan areas—such as Los Angeles, San Francisco or Chicago—made the cut, according to the magazine.

Salary was measured in relation to the area's cost of living.
