A bachelor degree in accounting is a prerequisite for the majority of accounting jobs.
Most programs focus on providing students with the necessary background and tools to build a foundation of accounting knowledge, technological expertise, interpersonal skills and professional insight.
Graduates enter the workforce with solid training in the intricacies of accounting work, but also with a broader understanding of the way the accounting world functions.
Specific courses and specializations differ from program to program, but it is reasonable to expect your bachelor degree in accounting program to include introductory, intermediate and advanced accounting courses; courses devoted to taxation and auditing; and general business and management classes.
Most programs also include room for electives and an array of general education courses such as math, literature and psychology to meet various general studies requirements.
While a bachelor degree is often a stepping-stone to further graduate degrees, it will qualify you for essentially all entry-level accounting jobs and many mid-level jobs as well. Graduates frequently enter into staff accountant positions at large accounting firms or at specific corporations and are well positioned to move up the ladder within just a few years time.
