A variation on the part-time MBA, Evening/Weekend MBA programs may hold classes on both evenings and weekends, or there may be separate tracks for "evening" and "weekend" students.

Weekend tracks may involve classes being held every Saturday, or on Friday and Saturday every other week. Executive MBA programs, for example, are often held on Friday and Saturday of every other week and the program usually takes two years to complete.

As with part-time programs, attendance may be limited to those who work full-time during the week. In some cases, weekend or evening MBA programs cover exactly the same material as the full-time programs; in other cases, fewer core classes are offered, or there are limited opportunities to specialize.

Evening/weekend MBA programs usually take two to three years to complete. Because the majority of weekend students already hold jobs, internships are not usually part of the curriculum.

Who Attends Evening MBA and Weekend MBA Programs?

Evening and weekend MBA programs cater to working professionals who are looking to advance in their current career or begin a new career at a management level. Because part-time MBA students generally only meet one or two evenings a week or on weekends, only a couple of courses are taken at a time.

These programs offer a rich classroom dynamic, as participants often bring a high level of work and career knowledge to the group. Because they have more experience in the actual business world, classes provide an effective problem-solving forum for real-life issues in management and the corporate realm.
