An online degree in information technology (IT) provides students with the opportunity to maximize the flexibility and convenience of their educational program.
Well-suited for working adults with self-disciplined study habits and computer experience, an online IT degree can help professionals advance or change their careers.
Offering the same high-quality education that students would expect to receive through an on-campus program, an online information technology degree typically involves upfront training in using the school's online learning tools, email system and communication standards. In some cases, students may need to upgrade their home computer to meet the system requirements for their online classes, though most relatively up-to-date computers should be adequate.
Based on their degree level, students can expect course work in their online IT program to include general or advanced studies of contemporary information systems and emerging technologies, networking, databases, computer programming, systems analysis and design, project management, and strategic planning. Different colleges may also require classes in core business subjects, such as finance and economics, as well as general education electives.
With an online IT degree, graduates qualify for a variety of roles in the information technology field, including systems analysts, database administrators, network engineers, project managers and software developers.
