Getting your real estate training online is a smart, popular—and affordable—decision. And if you're an already-established professional thinking of changing careers, online training is the most convenient way to earn your degree or license while you keep working at your current job.
Online real estate school courses are, fortunately, easy to find; community colleges, four-year colleges and universities, privately-owned real estate schools and even official state websites offer classes that will enable you to get your license or certification online. There are also many online options for students who wish to earn an associate's degree, bachelor's degree or an MBA online in business, accounting, finance—or any of the other traditional business specialties that have a real estate focus.

Online Real Estate Degree Options
Online Associate's Degree
Like most real estate degrees, the online associate's degree will specialize in business administration or applied business with a focus in real estate. This online degree will supply the basics about the real estate industry with an emphasis on such disciplines as real estate management or real estate sales. Students earning an online associate's degree are prepared for entry-level positions in property inspection and appraisal, property management and real estate buying and selling.
Online Bachelor's Degree
There are several online bachelor's degree options for students who are planning a career in the real estate business. Earning a bachelor's degree online prepares graduates for a variety of managerial positions within the real estate industry, from property management to managing a construction project. The average time to earn a bachelor's degree online in real estate is two years. The most common bachelor's degrees in real estate include the following:
- Bachelor of Science in Business Administration – Property Management
- Bachelor of Science in Real Estate Studies
- Bachelor of Science in Business Administration – Construction Management

Online Master's Degree
Online master's degree programs concentrate more on contracts management, real estate development, finance and project management and are designed to help graduates run their own real estate firm or brokerage house or move into senior management within a corporate or commercial environment. A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is the prerequisite for applying for a Master of Science in Management – Real Estate Management (MSRE), a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Real Estate Studies or a Master of Science in Real Estate Development (MSRED). Many professionals—who have earned a bachelor's in a related business field, such as finance or accounting, choose to earn their master's degree in real estate. The typical online master's degree program in real estate takes 18 months to four years, depending upon your flexibility, study schedule and current employment status.
Online License or Certification
Many online options are available for practicing real estate professionals who want to attain a state license or certification. Online license programs are available at real estate schools, state licensing offices and accredited online schools. Look for institutions that also offer exam preparation to help you pass your real estate license test. Remember that every state has its own standards and criteria for different aspects of the real estate business, and it's important to find out what's required in your state.
