It was one of the first post-secondary institutions founded to train students for the computer industry. Founded as a computer programming school in 1965 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, by Henry and Suzanne Herzing, Herzing University has grown from a modest classroom to a progressive leader in career education. The Herzing University system includes campuses in eight U.S. states, located in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Minnesota, Omaha, Ohio and Wisconsin. Herzing Online offers more than 45 different academic programs for distance learners.

Herzing University assures that a student enrolled in a Bachelor's of Science degree program can complete the program requirements and earn the degree in three years, or Herzing University will provide, at no tuition cost to the student, any additional courses required to complete the program. Courses in the last four semesters are usually offered in the evening. (Subject to conditions, see current Herzing University catalog for details. Not available at all campuses.)
