Associate's - Accounting

Earning an Associate's of Accounting degree from Rasmussen College will put you a step ahead of the competition. Graduates of the accounting program will learn accounting practices and theory, management and communications skills, and critical thinking skills. Students will have the option to specialize in banking, financial investigation or financial accounting so that they can earn a specialized degree in the program of their interests. Graduates will leave with the knowledge to work in multiple areas of accounting including banking, bookkeeping and financial planning.

Banking

The banking emphasis in the accounting degree program allows Rasmussen College students to focus on general banking issues and practices they may encounter in the workplace. Classes in the banking emphasis include fundamental to consumer lending, banking Law and marketing. Students interested in the banking emphasis should enjoy working with customers. Banking students should also have an interest in learning the principles of lending.

Financial Accounting

Financial accounting is a substantial part of accounting that involves the collection, recording and extraction of financial information. The financial accounting emphasis includes classes such as payroll accounting and two intermediate accounting courses to prepare students to fulfill the needs of a financial accountant. Students will gain the skills to work in an accounting firm or in a small business.

Financial Investigation

Financial institutions, such as the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), employ financial investigators to research potential criminal violations of IRS code and tax fraud. The Rasmussen College financial investigation emphasis teaches students these principles through courses such as financial investigation, introduction to criminal justice, and criminal law and procedures in addition to two intermediate accounting courses. Students who wish to work in financial investigation may also consider taking courses in criminal justice.
