Antioch University McGregor

Antioch University provides programs of study leading to bachelor and master degrees, as well as relevant continuing and professional education programs and certificates. Antioch University McGregor is one campus within a national, multi-campus university serving over 5,000 students.

MA in Management

The Antioch University McGregor Master of Arts (MA) in Management program attracts individuals who want to prepare as general managers with the leadership skills requisite in today's challenging and changing work environment. You will learn a broad range of management theories and techniques within a curriculum that builds on both life and work experience in a team-focused learning environment. By the time you graduate you will have become a capable practitioner who understands the broad context of business and can make an immediate and favorable impact on your organization.

The program prepares you for a career within the global community by requiring you to develop your capacity to adapt and influence societal change. It will challenge you to address issues of access and diversity within your organization and community. While you focus on becoming knowledgeable about social, political and economic issues that affect the future of business, you will also become competent in the traditional areas of management (accounting, finance, marketing, economics and production). Most significantly, you will develop highly effective interpersonal and teamwork skills, considered one of the key skills lacking in todays increasingly interconnected and cross functional world.

The Master of Arts degree in Management requires successful completion of 448-quarter credit hours and is intended for full-time students. Entering as a cohort class of 20-25, you will be placed into smaller learning teams of about five members. Your team will remain together for the duration of the program and will be incorporated into the class structure.

Recognizing that learning styles and schedules are very individualized, we offer two options for you, the prospective student:

The Saturday Program

All classes are delivered on Saturdays and a few Sundays. You begin the program each fall quarter in September. Each year begins with a two-day retreat. There are no summers. Classes are either five or ten weeks long. There are two classes each Saturday, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.

The Flex Program

You will begin the program in the Spring, meeting year round one weekend per month (Saturday and Sunday). Students are enrolled in two courses at a time and one course session is held in the mornings and one in the afternoons each Saturday and Sunday of the scheduled weekends.

BA Degree Completion in Management

The mission of undergraduate studies degree completion program is to assist adult learners of diverse backgrounds and levels of preparation to complete the bachelor's degree. In keeping with traditional Antioch values, you will be encouraged to think critically and act responsibly to improve society; acquire intercultural and global awareness and continue to grow personally and professionally in each of your family, community and work roles.

The curriculum consists of diverse modes of study, a balanced distribution of credits, an integrated set of course offerings and topical electives for independent study and skill building. The curriculum equally honors academic coursework and experiential learning.

The four basic modes of study are:

  • Academic Courses - Classes of approximately 20 students that meet Saturdays. This is the standard format.
  • Professional Development Seminars - Seminars that emphasize the integration of academic learning with students' work experiences.
  • Workshops - Classes that meet for an eight-hour session, usually on a Sunday. The focus is on special skills or limited topics.
  • Independent Study - Self-directed study organized by the advanced student and approved, supervised and evaluated by a member of the faculty.

The management major is intended to develop leaders who bring outstanding management skills and understanding to the critical problem of coordinating organizational activities in rapidly changing business and not-for-profit environments.

This degree provides theoretical and applied knowledge in the basic academic areas expected of all managers: specifically, management science, accounting, budgeting, economics, marketing, law and "career-pathing." Emphasis is placed on development of logical reasoning and critical thinking skills. As a student in the management major you will be encouraged to take elective classes in human development and the humanities. This combination of management and liberal arts courses is essential if you seek higher level management positions.
