Brookstone College of BusinessEstablished in 1939, Brookstone College of Business was previously known as Ashmore Business College and Asheboro Business College. Ashmore Business College was the first nationally accredited business college in North Carolina while Asheboro College was the first junior college of business in North Carolina licensed to award degrees. In 1984, these two schools were combined and relocated to the Piedmont Triad (Greensboro, Winston-Salem & High Point) area. The name of the new institution became Brookstone College of Business and the programs of study were shortened to certificate programs to facilitate quicker entry for graduates into the workforce. In 1987 a campus was opened in Charlotte, North Carolina. Today Brookstone College is established as a private business college for the primary purpose of providing postsecondary training and education for business and professional careers offering programs that culminate in the awarding of a certificate or diploma. Accredation and LicensingBrookstone College of Business is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS) to award certificates and diplomas. The Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools is listed as a nationally recognized accrediting agency by the United States Department of Education, and is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. Brookstone College of Business is licensed by the North Carolina State Board of Community Colleges. The North Carolina State Board of Community Colleges is not an accrediting agency. Accounting Systems Technology - DiplomaBack to topThis program is designed to train the student in advanced accounting principles; including corporate accounting, payroll and federal taxation. The use of computer software applications associated with accounting positions is emphasized throughout this program. Upon successful completion, the program culminates in the awarding of an Accounting Systems Technology Diploma. Administrative Assisting - CertificateBack to topThis program is designed to prepare the student for positions in an office setting that includes word processing, document processing and spreadsheet applications technology. Upon successful completion, the program culminates in the awarding of an Administrative Assisting Certificate. Computerized Accounting - CertificateBack to topThis program is designed to prepare the student for entry level accounting positions. The graduate of this program will be able to apply basic accounting principles in a computerized environment. Information Processing Technology - DiplomaBack to topThis program is designed for the student who desires to specialize in the processing of information through the use of integrated software applications. Emphasis is placed on word processing, database management, spreadsheet applications, computerized presentations, as well as, transcription, web page maintenance and document processing. Upon successful completion, the program culminates in the awarding of an Information Processing Technology Diploma. Medical & Health Office Technology - DiplomaBack to topThis program is designed to teach the terminology, processes, and procedures required for administrative support positions in the health care field. The student studies medical information processing and medical administrative software. The curriculum enables the student to learn to integrate the separate functions required to operate health care facilities. Upon successful completion, the program culminates in the awarding of a Medical & Health Office Technology Diploma. Medical Assisting & Office Technology - DiplomaBack to topThis program is designed to provide the student with an academic program that will lead to successful employment as an entry-level medical assistant or medical office assistant with basic skills and knowledge to perform both clinical and administrative functions in an ambulatory health facility. Students who successfully complete the program should have the necessary skills to become employed as a medical assistant, medical office assistant, phlebotomist, ECG technician, hospital ward clerk, insurance coder, medical billing clerk, insurance billing clerk, hospital admissions clerk, chiropractic assistant, etc. Upon successful completion, the program culminates in the awarding of a Medical Assisting & Office Technology diploma. Pharmacy Technician - DiplomaBack to topThis program is designed to provide the training necessary for a student to work as a pharmacy technician/assistant under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, depending on individual state requirements, and perform many different pharmacy-related functions. Basic anatomy, medical terminology, pharmaceutical calculations, drug distribution systems, and preparation of sterile dosage forms; as well as, other pharmacy office procedures/billing and compliance with state and federal pharmaceutical regulations are introduced in this program of study.
